AI for Nonprofits Built Into Your Books and CRM
MonkeyPod uses AI for the tedious parts of nonprofit bookkeeping and donor research: categorizing bank transactions, matching reconciliations, reading receipts, explaining your financial statements, and preparing you for donor conversations.
AI suggests. You decide.
Why: you've recorded this vendor the same way before.
Nonprofit bookkeeping, with AI doing the busywork
The reading, matching, and data entry that fill a bookkeeper's week, handled inside the same fund accounting system that holds your books.
Bank feed suggestions
For transactions imported through Online Banking, AI suggests the relationship, type, account, class, and tags, tells you how confident it is and why, and pre-fills the form. When it has nothing reliable to suggest, it says so. Nothing is recorded until you accept.
Bank reconciliation
Upload your statement and AI reads it, balances included, then preselects the matches it's confident about.
Receipt scanning
Upload or email a receipt. AI pulls out the vendor, amount, and date, says how sure it is, and pre-fills the expense.
Or email receipts to your organization's receipt address.
Financial statement analysis
Click Analyze on any of your three financial statements for a plain-language read, compared with similar nonprofits.
Financial Configuration Health Check
AI reviews your chart of accounts, classes, and tags and flags problems like duplicate or unused accounts before they muddy your reports.
Cash Flow Projection
A 12-month forecast with a plain-language summary of the outlook and key risks. AI infers assumptions like seasonality and growth from your history, the math is the same every time, and you can adjust any assumption.
Know your donors without the afternoon of searching
Donor Research Profiles use AI to read public information about a donor alongside their giving history in your donor CRM, then write up what you need for the conversation and save it on their record.
Walk in prepared
Their interests and what they care about, so the conversation starts on common ground.
Know what to ask for
Signs of giving capacity and a suggested ask range, or a plain note when public information doesn't support one.
Choose your approach
A recommended way to engage them. Create one profile at a time, or a batch for a whole list.
Serves on a regional foundation board; listed as a supporter in two other organizations' annual reports.
An alternative to wealth screening
Profiles cover some of the main reasons nonprofits pay for wealth screening: preparing for a donor conversation, sizing the ask, and choosing how to approach someone. They're included in every MonkeyPod plan, so there's no separate screening service to buy.
AI duplicate detection
An optional tab in the Duplicate Manager catches near-matches that exact matching misses, like nicknames and typos, and explains why.
Connect Claude or ChatGPT to MonkeyPod
With the AI Connector, the assistant you already use can read across your CRM, fundraising, and accounting in one connection, because in MonkeyPod they're one system. Ask questions in plain language, or have it run and undo bulk actions, add a new relationship, or record a donation you've already received, like a check that came in the mail.
- Before it changes anything, it shows what it's about to do and how many records it affects, then waits for your OK.
- It can only do what your own MonkeyPod permissions allow.
- Bulk actions it runs appear in Bulk Action History, marked as done through an AI assistant, and can be undone there.
- Donations recorded this way don't send a receipt, and card or Stripe payments can't be recorded through the assistant.
- You can see and revoke your connections at any time.

How MonkeyPod uses AI
AI in MonkeyPod is a second set of eyes, not a replacement for your bookkeeper's judgment. It does the reading, matching, and drafting. A person reviews the result and decides what happens.
It suggests, you decide
AI pre-fills forms and preselects matches. It doesn't record transactions or change your books on its own.
Used when you choose
Information goes to an AI model only when you use an AI feature, and only what that request needs. Some features can also be turned on or off for your whole organization.
Never used for training
Under our agreements with Anthropic and OpenAI, neither uses your data to train its models.
Always transparent
Not everyone wants to use AI. MonkeyPod makes it clear when features use this technology and you're never forced to use it.

For bookkeeping: bank feed suggestions, AI reconciliation, receipt analysis, analysis of your three financial statements (Statement of Activities, Statement of Financial Position, and Statement of Functional Expenses), Cash Flow Projection, and the Financial Configuration Health Check. For donors: Donor Research Profiles and AI duplicate detection. Enterprise plans can also connect Claude or ChatGPT through the AI Connector.
-
No. AI in MonkeyPod suggests, pre-fills, and preselects, and a person accepts or changes the result. Bank feed suggestions are only recorded when you accept them, and the AI Connector shows what it is about to do and waits for your OK before it changes anything.
-
No. When you use an AI feature, MonkeyPod sends the relevant information to Anthropic or OpenAI, and under our agreements with them, neither uses it to train its models. Their terms may allow them to keep it for a limited time, for example for security and abuse monitoring. The AI Connector works differently: the data your assistant needs is sent to it and follows that assistant's policies, not MonkeyPod's. See our security page and privacy policy for details.
-
No. MonkeyPod does not integrate with a third-party wealth screening service, and it does not produce wealth scores. Donor Research Profiles use AI to summarize public information about a donor alongside their giving history in MonkeyPod: their interests, signs of giving capacity, a suggested ask range, and a recommended way to engage them. That covers some of what teams use wealth screening for, like preparing for a conversation and deciding what to ask for. Treat a profile as a starting point and confirm anything you will rely on.

The AI bookkeeping features and AI duplicate detection are included on every plan. Donor Research Profiles come with a monthly allowance (5 on Essentials, 20 on Pro, 50 on Enterprise), and extra profiles are $2.00 each. They aren't available to fiscal sponsees. The AI Connector for Claude and ChatGPT is included with Enterprise. See pricing.

Yes. Bank feed suggestions and AI reconciliation stay off until your organization turns on the Bookkeeping assistance setting (in Organization Settings, under Accounting), and AI duplicate detection needs your organization's approval. Other AI features run only when you use them, such as clicking Analyze on a financial statement or uploading a receipt.
